Reverse Engineering

With costs soaring, companies are finding the challenge of maintaining their margins increasingly difficult.

For more than a decade, Orbital Tool Technologies has specialized in spotting opportunities to employ aftermarket parts in place of the OEM. We have saved hundreds of companies’ substantial amounts of money—money which translates immediately to the bottom line in the form of reduced expenses.

Reverse engineering has become increasingly necessary for part replacement, particularly with turbines that have been in operation for many years or have specific operating conditions. Moreover, damage from erosion, corrosion, foreign objects, unexpected operating conditions, and part failure as well as part alterations that may exist from previous overhauls and re-rates, require not only an understanding of the original part and intended usage, but also an understanding of the unit's history and current operating environment.

Reverse Engineering ServicesOften, especially on older equipment, parts wear out or cease functioning and new ones are either unavailable or extremely expensive. As part of our comprehensive mechanical repair capability, OTT provides machining obsolete parts right at our facility saving you time and money. Our reverse Engineering and machining of obsolete replacement parts have brought back on line many machines even after the original manufacturer recommended scrapping the equipment.

The Production Process
Sample Received - Whether it’s a stock item of an item made to order for a special use, the process begins with a new or used sample sent to OTT.
Reverse Engineering - After receiving your sample OTT determine properties such as dimensions, function, hardness, and material composition.
Blueprinting - From the reverse engineering data, all parts are blueprinted and tolerance according to international standards.
Cost Estimate - Customer will receive an estimate for the price of the finished part. It is typical to expect a discount of at least 15-30% versus the OEM with higher discounts as purchase quantities increase.
Production - When customers agree to the price the product is manufactured. After passing a quality inspection, parts typically ship the same day.

Today’s business climate demands strict cost controls to maintain competitiveness. Converting your machines OEM parts to aftermarket parts is a process which can accomplish this without the risk.

Obsession with quality has been one of the building blocks of Orbital Tool Technologies success. We have invested in state-of-the-art equipment to ensure that the customer receives a perfect part every time.
